When the fish look up
In the blue depths of the Baltic Sea, a small school of fish swims. They are the silent witnesses of a world that has changed and become unbalanced. As they swim towards the shore and explore their surroundings, they look up at the people on the shoreline. The fish see small groups of fishermen walking, very little they have left to do here as there are few fish left. They do see more tourists, though, enjoying the sea and walking along the beach. Once it was different… the oceans and seas were full of different fish and fishermen earned their money here. Tourists were there but not so many yet. But the world has changed… That’s what time does, it happens. Still. If you are quiet you will hear the sea asking us something…
The sea is calling
The sea is calling on us to take better care of her. She asks us to restore fish stocks so that her inhabitants can once again live in abundance. She wants us to think about how to enjoy tourism without damaging her fragile ecosystems. The sea asks us to work together, so that fishermen can fish again in local waters, and children can learn about its wonders and secrets.
Baltic Blue wants to answer
In Klintholm Havn, where the horizon meets the sea, Baltic Blue is coming up with an ambitious initiative: an information centre entirely focused on the sea and its surroundings. This centre will serve as a meeting place where people of all ages can learn about the importance of healthy marine life. There will be a nursery for young fish, a place where the cycle of life can begin again and where we give future generations of fish the chance to grow.
Besides educational programmes, local businesses, such as restaurants, will be informed about sustainable practices that contribute to the protection of our oceans and seas. We want to discover with them how they can have a positive impact on marine life while ensuring their own success.
Life back to the sea
The story of Baltic Blue is one of hope and collaboration. We want to come full circle, restore the balance between humans and nature. The fish look to us, not to accuse us, but to encourage us to make a difference.
Together, we can rise to the challenge and give the sea what it demands: care, respect and cooperation. Let us bring life back to the sea so that the sea continues to inspire and nourish us.
